EWBN President’s Visit to the USA: From Meetings to the Impact

Interaction with EWB-USA University Chapters in Boston

A talk program on ‘Classrooms to Communities’ was organized by Engineers Without Borders Havard University on 10th February 2026. It was then followed by a panel discussion where the panel featured Mr. Kapil Dev Regmi, President of Engineers Without Borders International; Mr. Scott M. Gregory, Program Engineer at Engineers Without Borders USA; and Dr. Christopher Lombardo, Past President of Engineers Without Borders USA.

The program brought together leaders and students from the Engineers Without Borders movement and discussed how learnings from formal and informal classrooms can be translated into making strong meaningful impacts on communities.

A total of ten EWB chapters participated in the seminar where the members of EWB Boston Professional Chapter and the university chapters from Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Brown, Boston and Worcester Polytechnic Institute provided their diverse perspectives. The seminar was initiated successfully by Ayande Joseph from the Harvard Chapter and facilitated by Co-President Ellen Caraballo. The interaction provided an excellent platform for strengthening collaboration among the EWB chapters and fostering future partnerships.

 

EWB Nepal Engagement at the EWB-USA National Conference

Mr. Kapil Dev Regmi, President of Engineers Without Borders Nepal and President of Engineers Without Borders International, participated in the three-day EWB-USA National Conference held from February 26–28 in Portland, Oregon. The conference opened with a keynote by Boris Martin and brought together over 550 members including university chapters, professional engineers, and professors from across EWB-USA network in the US and global partners.

The event included various sessions including partner meetups, workshops sessions on water testing, solar, GIS and EPANET. It also included volunteer activities with Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership and SolarBuddy. It also featured networking sessions, breakout discussions and research poster presentations providing a platform for knowledge sharing and building and strengthening partnerships across the global EWB community.

Mr. Regmi met Boris Martin, CEO of Engineers Without Borders USA, Melissa Montogomery and Scott M. Gregory during the conference for discussion on ways to strengthen collaboration between EWB-USA and EWB Nepal. The conference also featured presentations on ongoing projects of EWB Nepal including the University of California WASH initiative and the EWB Florida Chapter’s work in Karve.

Mr. Steven Bosilijevac, mentor for EWB Nepal and UC Berkeley along with Ms Flavia Valente, EWB Chapter President, UC Berkeley shared experiences of working with Nepali communities and highlighted the importance of long-term partnerships. The event provided a valuable platform to showcase EWB Nepal’s contributions while reinforcing collaboration with EWB-USA and the broader international network for sustainable community development.

Meeting with Prof. Kara Nelson at UC Berkeley

Mr. Kapil Dev Regmi, President of EWB Nepal, met with Kara L. Nelson, President of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors, Chair of the Development Engineering Graduate Group, and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of California, Berkeley, in the third week of February at her office. Mr. Steven Bosiljevac and Ms. Flavia Valente also participated in the meeting.

Discussions on potential collaboration between UC Berkeley’s engineering program and EWB Nepal were made in the meeting which included the possibility of a yearly fellow for EWN Nepal, a study-abroad program in Nepal and strengthening the EWB UC Berkeley Chapter. Additionally, Mr. Bosiljevac shared his experience working with EWB Nepal and Ms. Valente discussed how the university could support the chapter better. Following the discussion with Prof. Nelson, Mr. Regmi also held a follow-up meeting with Adrianne Johnson, Director of Partnership and Development at UC Berkeley, to further explore these opportunities.

St. Olaf President Dr. Susan Rundell Singer Expresses Interest in Sending Students to Nepal for a Study Tour

Mr. Kapil Dev Regmi, President of EWB Nepal met with Susan Rundell Singer, President of St. Olaf College during a recent visit to the college. Ms. Jenny Howenstine, Associate Dean also participated in the meeting. St. Olaf College, a renowned liberal arts college in the United States, has expressed interest in exploring opportunities for student engagement in Nepal through EWB Nepal.

The meeting focused on the possibility of a study tour program in Nepal through EWB Nepal for providing diverse and immersive learning experiences for students from St. Olaf students. President of EWB Nepal and St. Olaf College both were positive about this program and agreed to develop the details of the program soon.

Mr. Regmi also shared experience of previous immersive study tours with Engineers Without Borders Switzerland and how it was able to strengthen partnerships with local communities and provide enriching experience to the participants.

Reception at Mr. Peter Snell’s Residence

A reception was hosted by philanthropist and entrepreneur Peter Snell at his residence in Washington, DC during the first week of February 2026. The participants of the event included distinguished guests from diverse fields such as Eduard Heger, former Prime Minister of Slovakia, along with former ministers, ambassadors, U.S. congressmen, and senators.

Mr. Kapil Dev Regmi, President of EWB Nepal, interacted with participants from diverse professional backgrounds and shared insights about the work and impact of EWB Nepal. Clint Rogers, author of Ancient Healing, a book translated into more than 43 languages worldwide, was also present at the program. The guests were warmly welcomed by the host’s wife, Lindsay Snell.
