What Young People Want to Say and What They Want to Change

Biratnagar | 24 Shrawan 2083
A room full of young people can be noisy in a different way. There are questions about leadership, frustration with how things work, and ideas that do not always find a place in formal discussions.
Some of those conversations came together on 24 Shrawan 2083, when young people in Biratnagar sat down with former Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hon. Kedar Karki, for a dialogue on youth participation, leadership and governance.
The interaction was organized in collaboration with हामीEngineer’s, Goals Foundation, Engineers Without Borders Nepal Purbanchal University Chapter (EWBN-PU), and NYCA Biratnagar.
Rather than treating young people simply as an audience, the programme created space for them to put forward their questions and perspectives. The conversation moved around the place of youth in public decision-making, the responsibilities that come with leadership, and the issues young people are encountering in their communities.
For the young participants, meeting a former provincial chief minister in an informal dialogue offered a chance to hear directly from someone who had been inside the institutions they often discuss from the outside.
For EWBN-PU, the conversation also connected with a broader question: what does it mean for engineering students to participate in public life? The work of an engineer does not happen separately from questions of governance, communities and the decisions that shape public infrastructure.
The discussion did not attempt to provide one answer to those questions. It gave young people a place to ask themand to keep the conversation going.
